Interview with Mia Yang, Makeup Artist

"Please keep in mind, a flawless foundation needs a flawless canvas. Always start with a good moisturizer with a gentle massage, apply foundation with clean fingers to blend minimal foundation into the skin, then add concealer only on the small sections that need extra coverage."Asian make-up trends summer 2014

This week we will talk about the latest makeup trends for 2014, with our usual focus on makeup for Asian girls, with Mia Yang, Makeup Artist from Taipei City, Taiwan, currently based in LA. Mia's work can be seen on the pages of ELLE Taiwan, Bazaar China, Nylon Japan, I-D Magazine. She moved to New York and Los Angeles in 2011 and works throughout England, Taiwan, China and the USA. She is specialized in fashion editorials, commercials and celebrities.

Can you tell us which are the makeup trends from the current season (Winter 2013 2014) which in your opinion will continue into the Spring Summer 2014 season?

Pale lips are the must haves in the current season, along with flawless skin, are the way to achieve the A/W 2013 1014 makeup look. This popular look has never failed since the 60's, and it will continue into the Spring Summer 2014 with a hint of orange tone and sheer. Btw, try the Cara Delevingne eyebrows, they will remain a hit for sure.

Which are the most important new makeup trends you see coming for the Spring Summer 2014 season?

Heavy smokey eyes are out. The coming trend for make-up is a bare coverage of foundation with subtle contour. With natural goldish shimmery eyeshadow and eyeliner extending the edges of eyes, you are ready for a party. And again, thick and brushed up eyebrows!

Which one is your personal favorite?

The eyebrows, for Asian girls, you can try with light taupe color and don't be afraid to go thick, go wild!

You are not only a famous makeup artist but also - because of your position and role in the fashion world - a trend setter when it comes to beauty and makeup. Can you tell us what makeup are you wearing today, and - if possible - give us a brief explanation on how to 'copy' your makeup look? :-)

I wear very natural gold based eyeshadow from Kevyn Aucoin (their eyeshadow has beautiful shimmer, I love them!)

I have very clean face with no foundations today. And I can't live without winged eyeliner. I don't usually apply foundation myself, when needed, I use CC cream to correct skin color. I am very picky with eyeliner. I use non-smudge eyeliner pencil for the upper waterline, and eyeliner gel to create perfect winged liners, to finish the look, I will add a thin kohl black lines along the lashed with liquid eyeliner to make definition.

The must-have beauty product for the Spring Summer 2014 season, the product every girl and every woman should always bring in her purse is...

My recent favorite, Clinique Chubby stick lip color balm, their sheer nude color is perfect for the coming season.

Beauty and skin. How to obtain flawless beautiful skin with the right use of the right makeup products? What is your personal advice?

Please keep in mind, a flawless foundation needs a flawless canvas. Always start with a good moisturizer with a gentle massage, apply foundation with clean fingers to blend minimal foundation into the skin, then add concealer only on the small sections that need extra coverage.
