But if you ask long time Bangkok residents, locals, expats, the top Italian restaurants in Bangkok are probably less than ten, more realistically not more than five. One of these, a relatively recent addition to the Bangkok scene, is 'La Villa'.
Located in Sukhumvit Soi 53 (right in the Thonglor area), the restaurant and the new (and very suggestive) wine lounge will satisfy even the most demanding taste for high quality Italian food. The wide choice of food and wine (not just Italian wines), the professional staff and service, the elegant ambience, and the constant presence among the tables of Roberto Ferin, manager of "La Villa", all contribute to make a dinner - or a lunch - at "La Villa" a great experience.
The menu changes very frequently, but some 'signature dishes' we can point out in this article are - among the others - the delicious linguine with imported canadienne lobster - for this dish Mr. Ferin has been invited several times on TV shows in Thailand. And the unforgettable imported sea bass in a rock salt (we tried it personally, and still cannot get it out of our head ), or the imported Australian fresh baby spinach with grilled U.S. scallops in a balsamic dressing. And last but not least, the huge Australian chilled beef T-bone (1,2 kg) Florentine style charcoal, served with shaved parmesan and rocket salad. Armando is the talented chef behind all the delicious dishes served at "La Villa". If you have some other italian specialty in your mind, and cannot find it in the menu, maybe you could just try to ask. We have the feeling that this is one of those restaurants where you can always try to talk to the manager and request some special dish even if it is not on the menu. The way of presenting the menu is quite creative, and leaves a lot of room to 'creative cooking improvisation'. But we might be wrong. You can always ask however, they will not bite you, we are almost sure about it.
The restaurant has a very good mix of local customer base and expats, or frequent Bangkok travelers. The Wine Lounge with its suggestive cold blue environment is perfect for small parties, get-togethers, or just for a moment of 'relaxing and decompression' after the chaotic Bangkok traffic, before dinner. A private VIP room is available upon reservation. The price tag. Quality and price are tightly bonded, and La Villa makes no exception to this rule. We can place La Villa in the medium-high price range. Fresh food and original ingredients, high class ambience and customer base, professional staff are both cause-and-effect of the price tag, and this is exactly how it should be. McDonald's is just a couple of sky train stops away, in case you had something different in mind. La Villa Wine Lounge&Italian Dining adversus |
