Hairstyles and trends Spring Summer 2014
We talk about the latest hair trends for Spring Summer 2014 with karin Bigler, London based Hair Stylist. You can find her work on the most important fashion magazines, worldwide, From Vogue italia to GQ germany, to Dazed and Confused, just to name a few. Born and raised in Switzerland she moved to Paris in 1999. After working as an assistant to Marc Lopez and various other well-respected hairdressers on everything from photo shoots to high profile fashion shows, Karin established herself in the industry and hair became a passion. During those years, Karin was enriching her work through her knowledge in coloring. She was represented by Brtigitte Hebant, Blunt London/ Paris, Artlist Paris/NYC and D+V Management London/NYC. In September 2011, Karin moved to London where she is continuing her career. The last 2 years Karin has been exploring a new culture and a city full of inspiration.
Which are the most important new hair trends you see coming for the Spring Summer 2014 season? Short hair lengths, medium hair lengths, long hair?
I would like to separate catwalk trends SS14 from trends we see more in the celebrity music and cinema world.
There is a clear short hair trend for SS14. MILEY CYRUS is on the Love Magazine Cover all over London at the moment. Miley is having a classic undercut, shaved contours and the top hair is longer. An amazing 80ties cut that has been invented by Christiaan Houtenbos.
ANNE HATHAWAY and JENNIFER LAWRENCE are the proof of wearing great pixie crops short cuts at the moment.
Top model SASKIA DE BRAUW is continuing her amazing career with a very short boyish cut, her bleach blond hair is showing off in several campaigns SS14.
BEYONCÉ is probably the most amazing example for a medium long hair style. Her graduated bob is a great statement at the moment.
The top model TONI GARRN is wearing a bob style at the moment as well. The Victoria Secret model cut her hair for a French Vogue shoot.
SAM ROLLINSON, the British top model went from a bowl cut to a very short bob with fringe. Another great example of a medium length trendy cut.
On the long hair side we have black girls like MALAIKA FIRTH or Asian icon JI HYE PARK or European top model LILY MCMENAMY who are the classic long hair beauties.
Long hairstyles with layers or styles with fringes or simply over-shoulder long beautiful hair are good examples of SS14. Most of the catwalk trends SS14 have been created for long hairstyles. There is a sleek straight hair trend, a raw beauty, we could observe on shows as Christopher Kane, Balmain, Alexander Wang.
Side parting and low ponytails were another big trend on the catwalks. I created myself a look with side parting for LFW 1205 Fashion Show.
Another clear summer trend are accessorised hairstyles. Simple hairgrips, colorful hair-bands, pieces of fabric wrapped around the head.
Which one is your personal favorite and why?
My favorite style at the moment is the graduated bob, as I wear it myself since a few months.
From the catwalk I absolutely like the accessorised hairstyles form SS14. I love the playful add of accessories.
What about the colors?
In terms of trendy colors I would like to mention Josh Woods team who created primary blond, intense reds, blondes and brunettes to stand out at Marc Jacobs' last Louis Vuitton show.
The must-have hair care/beauty product for the Spring Summer 2014 season, the product every girl and every woman should absolutely have in her beauty case...
One of my favorite products at the moment is the styling treatment POTION 9 from SEBASTIAN PROFESSIONEL
The liquid styling treatment can be used in wet or dry hair. POTION 9 is a great protection and treatment for all hair types and lengths. It is creating a cool hair texture and is a must-have to go to the beach or to carry in a trendy city bag.
Thank you, and we hope we will be able to have you as our expert guest on TRENDYSTYLE.ASIA again in the future.
