Futuristic make-up at the Somarta Fashion Show in Tokyo

Backstage at the Somarta SS 2012 show in Tokyo we interviewed Mariko Tagayashi, M.A.C senior make-up artist Japan. The make-up look for this catwalk show is very strong and seems to have futuristic influences. Mariko Tagayashi explained us the idea behind the look.

What is the inspiration for the make-uplook you designed for the Somarta catwalk show?

The inspiration came from a crew of a plane or rather a spaceship. But is it also inspired by flying birds. The designer wanted people to feel the speed of bird wings and added an touch from space.

Can you explain this make-up more in detail? Colors, techniques?

In the collection red is a dominant color and so I used red also for the eyes. I hide the girls' own eyebrows and did a very strong make-up so that the focus is on the eyes. The skin on the other hand is very clean and the lips are very natural.
