Make-up tips for Asian women

"Adversus meets Yola Hung, Make-up Artist in Hong Kong, to talk about make-up tips for Asian women. Common mistakes - mistakes every (trendy) girl should avoid - techniques, products"

We talked with Yola Hung, make-up artist in Hong Kong about the most common make-up mistakes, the 'must have' tools and products, and even her own make-up on the day we interviewed her! Actually, let's start right from her make-up. Read on.

Can you explain us your own make-up today? How did you make-up, which products did you use?
I used a make up base, then I used a corrector to cover the dark circles and loose powder on the face. Drawn the dark brown color eye line, and then spread out. No liquid foundation, but mascara and rouge.

Which is (or are) the most common make-up mistakes you see on the streets in Hong Kong?
Choice of the wrong liquid foundation
Unnatural look
Over-exaggerated make-up
Too much use of false eyelashes

Which products do you use in your daily profession as a free lance make-up artist? Which ones are your favorite brands?
I usually try different brands of cosmetics, and use them for long term if I find them useful. For example right now I often use Master corrector from Armani, Foundation primer and hydrating foundation primer from Laura Mercier, Eyeshdow and foundation from Nars...

Foundation every day, or only when needed and as little as possible?
It depends on the situation. It is acceptable to go out without foundation if you have smooth and well-balanced skin. If not, I suggest using foundation daily.

How to correctly use the foundation?
The most important thing is to choose the right foundation and color. Actually, Asians are not suitable 'reddish' foundation, as it will increase the oil excretion and make the skin look dull. (this is a common mistake for many Asian women). The use of tools or not depends on the texture and personal habits. As a professional make-up artist I recommend using powder puff.

Basic make-up tools each girl should have in her beauty bag at home? Brushes etc? Can you give us your own personal "must have" list and advice?
Make up base
Foundation
Loose powder
Eyebrow powder or eyebrow pencil
Blush
Lip balm
Lipstick (in the color which more closely matches your lip color, or light color lipstick)

Which beauty products do you have for your own personal use with you right now in your bag?
Basically, I don't bring cosmetic products with me in my purse. I just keep lip balm and hand cream in my pocket.
